Oral arguments have been scheduled before the Illinois Supreme Court in the legal fight over whether to end cash bail in Illinois.

The justices will hear arguments on March 14. A number of Illinois prosecutors filed suit over the Pretrial Fairness Act provisions under the state’s SAFE-T Act.

They argue that the measure to end cash bail in Illinois is unconstitutional because it removes a judge’s discretion in many cases.

Cash bail was supposed to end in Illinois on January 1st, but the new law has been on hold while the challenges make their way through the legal system.

It’s not known how long it will take after the oral arguments for the state’s high court to make a final decision.
