Gas prices are slowly coming down locally after a significant jump over the past month.
Springfield’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is down nine cents over the past week, to $3.46 a gallon.
But that’s still more than 20 cents a gallon higher than it was a month ago.
Prices locally are lower than they were one year ago, just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered a surge in gas prices around the country.
Oil companies, however, have raked in record profits all the while.
