As lawmakers return to Springfield for the final few days of the current legislative session, state Senator Doris Turner expects there will be a vote soon on a proposal to ban the sale of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines.

Appearing live on WMAY, Turner acknowledged that balancing the interests of gun rights supporters and gun control advocates won’t be easy, but she says good legislation means no one gets everything they want.

One potential sticking point is what will happen to people who already own assault-style weapons. Turner says talks about that are ongoing, and she declined to take a public position on the issue during those negotiations.
