While the winter storm has brought only moderate snowfall to the area, state and local officials say travel will remain tricky into the weekend.
Very strong winds have resulted in blowing and drifting snow and white-out conditions at times, creating hazardous conditions on roadways. Sangamon County issued a Level 1 winter weather emergency Thursday, advising drivers to be cautious if they do venture out onto county highways.
