Sangamon County’s Thanksgiving traffic enforcement detail gets underway this Friday.

The sheriff’s office says it will have increased patrols and seat belt enforcement zones from November 18th until the 28th, including the long Thanksgiving weekend, one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Seat belt enforcement will be a big focus. Sheriff Jack Campbell says statewide, compliance with seat belt laws is at 93-percent, but says his deputies will be looking for the seven-percent who are not complying. Police will also be looking for drunk drivers, speeders, and those who are texting or otherwise distracted behind the wheel.
