Veterans Day observances are planned across Springfield for Friday.
One of the highlight events will be the annual downtown parade, which will travel down Capitol Avenue from 11th Street west toward the Statehouse starting at 10am. A program and luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post at 1800 East Capitol, starting at 11:30am Friday.
There will also be Veterans Day events at the University of Illinois Springfield, Lincoln Land Community College, at the Chatham-Auburn VFW, and elsewhere. In addition, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum will offer free admission Friday to active duty personnel and veterans with proper military ID.
