The U.S. Attorney for Central Illinois has launched an environmental justice initiative to ensure that poor and under-served communities do not disproportionately suffer from the effects of pollution and climate change.
U.S. Attorney Greg Harris says his office will work with federal, state, and local agencies to meet those objectives. He notes that poor and minority communities have often been “marginalized” and “overburdened” by the impacts of industrial pollution and environmental crimes.
He says people with concerns about possible violations of environmental law can contact his office directly or go through other agencies such as the EPA.
