With Election Day now less than a month away, Republican candidate for governor Darren Bailey may be trying to distance himself from controversies surrounding former President Donald Trump.

Bailey sought and got Trump’s endorsement ahead of the June Republican primary, where Bailey easily defeated five GOP rivals. But the Chicago Tribune reports that Bailey rarely invokes Trump’s name now. And when Bailey appeared at a Southern Illinois rally over the weekend that featured remarks by the former President’s son, Donald Trump, Jr., Bailey did not mention either Trump or Trump, Jr. by name.

Donald Trump, Jr., referenced Bailey several times, urging the crowd to vote for Bailey and, quote, “unseat the lunatic in your Governor’s Mansion.”
