Southern Illinois University Carbondale has greeted its largest class of incoming freshmen in six years.
More than 15-hundred freshmen started classes this fall, up nearly 100 over the incoming class in the fall of 2021. It was the third consecutive year of growth in freshman admissions. Even so, overall enrollment at SIU-C is down 1.4 percent, with a total of 11,107 students on campus.
Nonetheless, university chancellor Austin Lane says SIU is standing by its goal of reaching 15,000 total enrollment at the Carbondale campus by 2030.
