Republican candidate for governor Darren Bailey says Governor JB Pritzker should apologize to students and parents around the state for shutting down schools at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pritzker ordered schools around the state closed as the pandemic took off in March of 2020 in an effort to prevent further spread of the virus, at a time before vaccines and therapeutic treatments were widely available. But Bailey says Pritzker’s “unilateral lockdowns” robbed students of classroom time, sports, graduations, and cherished memories.
Bailey says if he’s governor, schools will never be shut down again on his watch.
