One week into the new school year, and District 186 is still trying to fill vacant positions for teachers and support staff.
As of Thursday, the district still had nine teaching vacancies, although all those slots are being covered by other full-time staff or permanent subs. There are around 50 vacancies for paraprofessionals, such as special ed classroom assistants.
But the district says it is making progress… hiring 16 people since August 15th, with six more in the pipeline pending completion of background checks.
