Sangamon County says the state has given up its right to appeal a court ruling over jail inmate transfers… and wants to proceed with an expedited hearing schedule in the legal fight.

A judge this month issued a temporary restraining order requiring the Illinois Department of Human Services to find psychiatric care for county jail inmates who have been found unfit to stand trial. State’s attorney Dan Wright says DHS did not file an appeal by the August 8th deadline, and now wants to proceed to discovery and depositions over the next several weeks.

Sangamon and several other counties want a permanent injunction requiring the state to transfer such inmates in a timely fashion.
