Public health officials are mobilizing after a daycare worker in Rantoul tested positive for monkeypox.

Illinois Department of Public Health director Sameer Vohra says children in the day care are being screened and monitored, and no additional cases have been found so far. The worker also provides home health care, and one affected client is also being monitored.

Vohra notes that monkeypox is not spread through casual contact, and generally requires prolonged close or intimate contact with an infected person. The state is working to increase vaccine availability for impacted families.
