The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office is once again extending the deadline to renew expired driver’s licenses and state ID cards.

The state began extending that deadline in order to avoid a crush of people converging on driver’s services facilities during the pandemic. The latest extension was set to expire at the end of this month, but has now been pushed out to December 1st, 2022. Secretary Jesse White urges people who are eligible to renew their license or ID cards online at ilsos.gov.

But some people are still required to visit a driver’s services facility in person, including first-time license applicants, people seeking the new Read ID card, and drivers over 75 who must be seen in person in order to renew their license.
