The University of Illinois has approved the purchase of a building in downtown Springfield to serve as the new home for the UIS Innovation Center.

The three-story building at 4th and Washington is currently owned by the Illinois Sheriffs Association. It will ultimately house Innovate Springfield, the UIS business incubator, as well as technology labs for the development and testing of product prototypes. The building will also include space for workforce development programs and for projects through the UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership.

Renovation work will begin after current tenant leases expire in 2023, with that work to be completed sometime in 2024.
