Now that a race for Springfield mayor is taking shape, other pieces for next year’s city elections are also falling into place.
Ward 1 Alderman Chuck Redpath and Ward 9 Alderman Jim Donelan both confirm that they will be seeking another term on the City Council next year. Ward 7’s Joe McMenamin… who cannot run for alderman again because of term limits… expects there will only be two open seats on the Council next spring, his and the Ward 4 seat currently held by John Fulgenzi, who announced several weeks ago that he won’t seek a third term.
Over the weekend, City Treasurer Misty Buscher became the first announced candidate to challenge incumbent Mayor Jim Langfelder, who is seeking re-election.
