The Springfield City Council will vote on whether to use more city tourism dollars to purchase sponsorships for several local events.

In recent weeks, aldermen have approved using city hotel-motel tax revenue to purchase sponsorships in support of the Memorial Health Championship golf tournament and the purchase of the Giant Slide at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Now Mayor Jim Langfelder is proposing three new sponsorships… $10,000 for the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes baseball team, $20,000 for the International Route 66 Mother Road Festival, and $23,000 for next month’s AbeFest music festival at the BOS Center. Langfelder says spending the money upfront will help bring more visitors… and dollars… into Springfield.
