Sangamon County expects to offer COVID vaccinations for children under the age of five within days.

Federal regulators have approved the shot for children as young as six months, and as soon as the county gets a green light from the state, it plans to offer the smaller, child-size doses at the health department building by appointment only.

Meanwhile, the county is seeing a slowdown in new COVID cases, with 777 in the past week, down more than 30-percent from a week earlier. But there were three more COVID-related deaths of county residents in the past seven days, for a pandemic total of 386.
