Three of five Sangamon County Jail inmates who have been waiting months to be transferred for mental health treatment should be in psychiatric settings by this weekend… with the other two scheduled to be moved in the next ten days.

The moves come after State’s Attorney Dan Wright went to court to seek a contempt citation against the Illinois Department of Human Services over the failure to find suitable bed space for inmates who were found mentally unfit to stand trial.

State law requires those inmates to be moved within 20 days, but so far this year ten inmates have remained in the Sangamon County Jail for weeks past that deadline.
