There’s a new COVID outbreak impacting an Illinois veterans’ home, this time at the facility in Manteno.

The state Department of Veterans Affairs says 16 residents and six staffers have now tested positive for the virus. Most of the residents have no symptoms, while a handful are experiencing mild symptoms. But one resident who was already in hospice care passed away within hours of testing positive for the virus and receiving a COVID booster shot.

Infected residents are being cared for in the home’s negative pressure isolation unit and are being evaluated to see if antiviral medication is needed.
