Governor JB Pritzker has signed legislation banning the use of latex gloves in healthcare and food service settings in the months to come.

Pritzker says the new law will protect thousands of Illinoisans who suffer from latex allergies, which can lead to a range of symptoms from skin irritation to shock. The law says if non-latex gloves are not available, facilities can use latex gloves if they display warning signs about their use.

The ban takes effect in January of 2023 for food service establishments and EMS personnel, and one year later for healthcare facilities.
