There are a few areas of agreement… and many clear policy differences… among Republican and Democratic candidates for the open 13th Congressional District seat.

Democrats Nikki Budzinski and David Palmer, and Republicans Regan Deering and Terry Martin took part in the forum in Springfield Tuesday night sponsored by the Faith Coalition for the Common Good. All four supported price caps on life-saving drugs like insulin… although Palmer went farther, calling for adoption of a single-payer “Medicare-for-all” system of health care. On the issue of raising the federal minimum wage, both Democrats supported increasing it to $15 an hour. Martin opposes any increase, while Deering said she’s not in favor of a federal minimum wage. And on the 2020 presidential election, Martin said he did not want to say who actually won, and both he and Deering denounced this week’s January 6th committee hearing as a political stunt.
