A 14-year-old Springfield High School student is in custody after authorities say he made a threat to carry out a school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut… the scene of a deadly mass shooting nearly a decade ago.

The school received that telephone threat on Wednesday. Police in Newtown, Connecticut, worked with Springfield police to identify the male ninth-grader as their suspect.

Authorities say the juvenile did not have access to firearms or a means of carrying out the threat. But they also say there is zero tolerance for these sorts of threats. The teen is being held in the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing and a mental evaluation.
