Congressman Rodney Davis is touting the support of several law enforcement officials and groups in his Republican primary battle against fellow incumbent Mary Miller.

Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell and former sheriff Neil Williamson were among the officials who joined Davis Thursday at a Springfield news conference. Campbell says Davis has fought efforts to “defund the police” and says Davis, unlike Miller, routinely reaches out to see if there’s anything the sheriff’s office needs.

When asked if Davis and his congressional colleagues should do anything to restrict access to guns in the wake of recent mass shootings, Campbell said guns are not the problem… the real issue is improving access to mental health care before someone carries out a shooting.
