Parking has been free at meters in downtown Springfield since the start of the pandemic… and will be for the foreseeable future. But not everyone knows it, and some Springfield aldermen say the city should do more to spread the word.

Several aldermen say they’ve personally witnessed people plugging meters downtown in recent weeks, even though it isn’t required.

Ward 8’s Erin Conley says the city needs more signage to let residents and visitors know that they don’t have to pay to park… even though they do still have to abide by the two-hour time limit.
