An Illinois State Police task force has started work on finding ways to improve compliance with Scott’s Law.

Also known as the “Move Over Law,” Scott’s Law requires vehicles to get into the opposite lane when approaching first responders or any vehicle with emergency flashers on at the side of the road. Among other things, the task force will look at technology that can send alerts to a driver’s smartphone when they are approaching emergency vehicles or other road hazards.

The task force is scheduled to present recommendations, including proposed legislative action, by January 1, 2023.
