A teacher in Pekin is under investigation for the alleged battery of a student with a disability.

The Pekin Daily Times reports Jackie Gray, a teacher at Wilson Intermediate School, is accused of “choking” a student in March. Gray was arrested last month and reportedly told police that the student had been disruptive and had been hitting and pinching other students. She said she had grabbed the student by the back of the neck to “redirect” their attention, but said she only did so for a few seconds.

She is currently on paid leave from the school.
