Summer Utility Bills Could Soar

Brace yourselves for what could be an expensive summer of cooling your home or keeping the lights on.

 

Illinois lawmakers and industry groups say the state’s push toward greener energy… and away from coal… will add to strain on the electric grid, and compound the inflationary effects of supply chain problems and higher gas prices.

 

Ameren says summer utility bills could go up “significantly,” and warns that there may not be enough power on the grid to meet demand at all times, which could lead to “rolling brownouts” at certain times and places.
