Authorities have identified the Knox County sheriff’s deputy who was killed Friday in the line of duty.
32-year-old Nicholas Wiest was struck and killed by a vehicle that was allegedly fleeing police. Wiest had been attempting to place spike strips on the roadway to slow down the speeding car when he was hit. Other law enforcement on the scene attempted life-saving measures, but Wiest died of his injuries.
22-year-old Daylon Richardson of Granite City is facing murder and other charges in the incident.
