Faculty at the University of Illinois Springfield have taken a vote of “no confidence” in the university’s provost.

The State Journal-Register reports a faculty group called the Coalition of Concerned Professors contends that Provost Dennis Papini has overseen serious declines in enrollment, has failed to address staffing shortages in key offices like Financial Aid, and has not held university employees accountable for violations of school policy. Meanwhile, the union representing UIS faculty says it continues to negotiate with administrators in an effort to avert a possible strike.

UIS United Faculty has authorized a strike, but has not yet set a formal date for a walkout.
