The National Weather Service is now offering an improved assessment of the potential for severe weather this weekend in and around Springfield.

There is now only a “slight” risk of severe storms for Sangamon and surrounding counties, although the risk is greater for eastern Illinois, including Decatur and Champaign. A storm system this weekend could bring high winds and the possibility of tornadoes to parts of the state Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.
