We’re learning more about the City of Springfield’s wins and losses in the new state budget.

While the city received state funding for its medical district for the first time in the district’s 20-year history, the amount was far less than the city had hoped. The city had sought $2 million to be used for planning and future growth of the Mid-Illinois Medical District, but only received $250,000. However, the city is still counting that as a win, since the medical district had never before received state funds. The city also sought up to $6 million toward development of the North Mansion Y Block, but that request was rejected.

However, the city remains in the running for a $3 million Main Street grant from the state to develop the site as a park with an outdoor amphitheatre.
