Springfield police are giving the public a look at the new license plate reader technology to be deployed around the city.
83 of the devices will be installed at major entrances and exits from the city, as well as at high-traffic intersections.
Police Chief Ken Scarlette says the devices will help police locate vehicles suspected of involvement in shootings and other crimes… and says they will not be used to issue tickets for speeding or running red lights.
