A Springfield alderman is expressing frustration over households in his ward getting citations for basketball hoops extending out over roadways or sidewalks.
Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory says there are many more important things happening in his ward, and can’t understand why the city is using time and manpower to write tickets for what he considers to be a trivial problem.
Public works officials say they only get involved in response to complaints, and say households are given several notices and chances to rectify the issue before a citation is issued. Gregory is asking that he be notified and given a chance to work with the residents directly before a citation is issued.
