A man is in custody after an altercation Friday morning in a Sangamon County courtroom.

Sheriff Jack Campbell says the 52-year-old man entered courtroom 7C shortly before 10am and attempted to approach the presiding judge, Ryan Cadigan. The man refused several orders to stop. Several county officers then attempted to physically restrain the man, who put up a fight. During the struggle, the man bit a correctional officer on the arm. The man also sustained an injury during the course of the incident.

He was taken to the Sangamon County Jail and then transferred to a hospital for treatment of that non-life-threatening injury.
