The 2022 election season is now officially underway, as candidates begin filing petitions for a spot on the June primary ballot.
Hundreds of candidates and campaigns were in line by 8am Monday outside the State Board of Elections offices in Springfield for a chance to appear first on the ballot in their respective races. Among those submitting petitions at the start of the weeklong filing period were Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and two Republican challengers, Peggy Hubbard and Casey Chlebek.
In addition, two Republican congressional incumbents… Rodney Davis and Mary Miller… filed to run against each other in the newly-redrawn 15th congressional district. And five candidates have filed in the 13th Congressional District… Democrats Nikki Budzinski and David Palmer, and Republicans Jesse Reising, Regan Deering, and Matt Hausman.
