Both Springfield and Sangamon County will get a share of a massive national settlement over opioid addiction. But it’s unclear exactly how much money each governmental body will get.

Illinois will collect around $760 million of the total $26 billion settlement with a drug manufacturer and three distributors of the highly addictive drugs.

The state will split that money with local governments to cover some of the costs they’ve incurred in dealing with drug overdoses, addiction treatment, and other issues related to the opioid crisis. But exact amounts of that distribution, and when it will be disbursed, are still being worked out.
