There’s controversy in Macoupin County over a county board member’s remarks suggesting there should be a “cat hunting season.”

The comments came during discussions over alleged problems at the Macoupin County Animal Shelter. Newschannel 20 reports that board member Todd Armour said at the meeting that having a no-kill shelter was “insanity,” because it’s impossible to stay ahead of wild animals breeding in the wild. He said that’s why there’s a deer hunting season, and said maybe a cat hunting season is needed, too.

Other board members say the comment was sarcastic, but some in the community are calling for Armour to step down.
