A Sangamon County judge has ruled that the state cannot enforce its mandates involving masks, COVID vaccinations, and COVID testing in Illinois schools.

Judge Raylene Grischow ruled that the state rule imposes a form of quarantine without providing due process to challenge the requirement. In her 30-page ruling, Grischow said that such mandates without accompanying due process was the type of “evil” that state law was intended to constrain.

Grischow indicates that her temporary restraining order is effective statewide. She says it does not prohibit such mandates, but requires that due process procedures be put in place. Governor JB Pritzker says he will seek an expedited appeal of the ruling, which he says will make schools less safe.
