Illinois Republicans are blasting Governor JB Pritzker’s budget proposal this week, accusing the governor of relying on “election-year gimmicks” rather than making serious long-term structural changes to the state’s finances.
Pritzker says the state is in its best fiscal shape in years and is proposing some temporary tax relief for Illinoisans. But GOP lawmakers say taxpayers deserve more long-term relief… and say Pritzker should be focusing more on bringing down spending.
Republicans claim the budget relies too much on federal pandemic relief dollars, which they refer to as “Biden bucks.”
