Sangamon County has chosen the artists who will create new murals to be featured at the forthcoming city-county transportation hub in downtown Springfield.
From 49 applicants, two artists were selected to create the murals, one of which will be 31-feet-high,while the other stands 47-feet-high. Danielle Mastrion of New York will create the larger mural, facing the railroad tracks.
It will show local landmarks and depict historical figures with local connections, including Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama. Jared Bader of Pennsylvania will design the other mural, which will depict the history of public transportation in Springfield.
Total cost for the mural project is around $217,000.
