Springfield aldermen will vote this month on a proposal to demolish the municipal parking garage at 4th and Washington.

Engineers say the garage is too dilapidated to be salvaged. It’s expected to cost more than $700,000 to tear it down.

It’s unclear what might go up in its place, but city officials say it could be replaced by another parking ramp, possibly for use in conjunction with a proposed downtown campus for the University of Illinois Springfield.
