As students prepare to return to classrooms in District 186 next week, other area schools are continuing to deal with challenges caused by the latest surge in COVID cases.

Springfield’s Lutheran High School took a one-day pause in classes Friday because of multiple students and staff out with COVID and other health issues, like the flu. The school plans to resume in-person instruction on Monday. Meanwhile, PORTA schools have had to temporarily suspend its “Test to Stay” program for students who were exposed to the virus. After eight students tested positive this week, PORTA doesn’t have enough supplies to test every student who was in close contact with them.

For now, the district plans to let students remain in class as long as they don’t show any symptoms of the virus, unless directed otherwise by health officials.
