The Sierra Club is keeping up its pressure in opposition to a new natural gas-fired power plant near Springfield.
The environmental group delivered more than 2,000 public comments in opposition to the EmberClear project to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Thursday. The Sierra Club says the proposed Lincoln Land Energy Center is too close to homes and schools, and poses a risk to personal and environmental health. Local business groups say the plant will create jobs and provide a needed source of reliable electricity in the years to come.
The IEPA is still collecting public input as part of the permit process for the proposed plant.
