The new U.S. Attorney for Central Illinois has been officially sworn in.

Gregory Harris becomes the first Black U.S. Attorney for the Central District, which covers 46 counties from Urbana to Springfield to the Quad Cities. Harris was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last week. He took his oath of office Monday in Davenport, Iowa.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says he was sworn in there because the courthouse in Rock Island is closed pending construction of a new federal courthouse there.
