Mental Health Monday: Doom Scrolling [VIDEO]

Mental Health Monday, Rocki

Lately, I’ve felt a lot of weight from the world. I tend to get overwhelmed thinking of all the terrible things that happen on a daily basis around this planet, which can be easy to do. I mean, you turn the news on, and most of what you see it human kind NOT at our best.

Concentrating on the bad is something I do. It’s not just through my line of thought either – I also have been known to doom scroll. If you’ve never heard that term – it just means watching a lot of terrible stuff from the news feeds from your social media accounts.

It takes a bit for me to notice it’s going on, but after a few nights of effected sleep and a continued gloomy mood, I have to make myself snap out of it.

I remember the first time I talked to my therapist about this. I had told her I was in a funk that I couldn’t seem to get myself out of. After digging around a bit, she realized that I was watching a lot of negative content. I would go from the news, to my socials, to discussions with colleagues and friends about politics…. a one way ticket to Gloomsville.

Her advice – which was so simple yet changed my attitude instantly – was to add some good in with the bad. Or, better yet – spend some time only watching positive content. Life needs balance – even when it comes to simple things like how we entertain ourselves. It’s a simple fix, like I said, but if you’re a doom scroller, this’ll help!

Enjoy this week’s good time, happy fun, video!
