One of the few Democrats in the General Assembly to vote against the new state budget says she did so primarily out of concern over the fact that it raised legislative pay.

State Senator Doris Turner of Springfield says there was a lot to like in the budget, but she thinks the pay hikes were inappropriate – and says she plans to donate the additional money she will receive to charity.

Appearing live on WMAY, Turner said she was proud of the bills she was able to pass – including one to create a commission that will study whether Illinois should adopt a new state flag.

And she says she will continue to work on a bill that did not pass in the spring – one that would require EMTs to wear body cameras while on-duty.
