Authorities in two counties are investigating a shooting incident northwest of Springfield Tuesday.
Just before 4:30 pm, Menard County authorities were notified by officials in Mason County that a motorist had been shot but was still traveling southbound on Route 97, with the suspect vehicle – a U-Haul box truck – in pursuit.
Authorities attempted to intervene and learned that the victim had turned around and headed back into Mason County, while the U-Haul continued south on 97.
Authorities say the truck initially evaded attempts to stop it, nearly striking law enforcement vehicles, before finally being pulled over.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Mason County Jail, while the victim was located and taken to a hospital for treatment.
There was no immediate word on the condition of the victim or what may have precipitated the shooting.
