A watchdog group says more than half of Illinois hospitals are failing to comply with federal price transparency guidelines – but both Springfield hospitals are in compliance.

The group Patient Rights Advocate looked at whether hospitals are following the federal rule requiring them to post prices online for around 300 common procedures and services, to allow consumers to shop for the best available prices.

Only 24% of hospitals nationwide met the requirements of the rule, and only 37% of Illinois hospitals did so.

However, both HSHS St. John’s and Springfield Memorial Hospitals were listed as being in compliance in the group’s report.
