A vote is expected next month on plans for District 186 to purchase 41 acres at the former FiatAllis site in Springfield.
The district hopes to use that land for a new elementary school and a central office headquarters that would put all of the district’s administrative departments under one roof. The property includes the former corporate office building for drug wholesaler H.D. Smith, and school district officials say the building could easily be converted into administrative offices. The proposed new school would consolidate three existing elementary schools into one much larger facility.
The district must still obtain paperwork showing that environmental cleanup work on the site has been completed before the sale can be finalized.
